Online consultation platform “TapChief” raises undisclosed seed funding from Paytm

TapChief is a Bengaluru-based online platform to connect with experts for advice. It lets the user choose an expert they want to connect with or use the smart skill search to get a relevant expert in any domain, send across a short description of the nature of your query and a time when you’d like to schedule the call. If the expert accepts, the platform arranges a call to both the parties from their end at the scheduled time.

It connects users such as students and start-ups seeking career and business advice to experienced professionals. It has raised an undislosed seed funding from mobile payments and e-commerce firm Paytm. Angel investors including Aprameya Radhakrishna founder of TaxiForSure, Subramanya Venkat ex-managing partner at Bessemer Venture Partners and Venk Krishnan, managing partner at NuVentures also participated in the funding round.

The company was founded in 2016 by BITS Pilani alumni Shashank Murali, Binay Krishna, & Arjun Krishna. The company claims to have listed 5,000 professionals such as chief operating officers, entrepreneurs, consultants and senior executives from over 2,000 organizations.

It lets people to register themselves as an expert and they can set their own rate for the session. TapChief charges additional convenience fee on top of the expert’s rate. The basic rate for a session is Rs 349 for 30 minutes session and varies from expert to expert. The request automatically gets expired if in 72 hours if not replied to.

According to TapChief over 40% of its listed experts do not charge for consultation while some do charge for their time, and donate their earnings to charitable organizations and NGOs through the platform.

TapChief was announced as the winner of the MindBatteries, Chase Your Dreams – Ideathon’ Contest and took $150K funding (Prize money) from Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma in April 2016.
