Ever since the service came out, Google Play Music has almost not changed at all. The user interface is the same simple tile layout with basic music functionalities. Sure, we get an enhanced experience once we get into the actual offering itself, but in terms of look and feel, the service felt quite plain.
Well, this is all about to change now. Google announced today that it is working on a new update for its Android, iOS and Web offerings of Play Music with a bright new UI. The app also relies on machine learning to deliver what’s relevant to you.
According to the web giant, the AI-based service will consider various factors including your music history, the time of the day, the weather and a lot more to give you a consolidated playlist that you may like. Just refreshing the home screen will change all the recommended tracks in an instant so you can discover new ones.
“When you opt in, we’ll deliver personalized music based on where you are and why you are listening — relaxing at home, powering through at work, commuting, flying, exploring new cities, heading out on the town, and everything in between,”
Google says in a blog post.
“Your workout music is front and center as you walk into the gym, a sunset soundtrack appears just as the sky goes pink, and tunes for focusing turn up at the library.”
The service will also take into account whether or not you are connected to the internet. In case you are, your suggestions will come in from all parts of the web. But if you don’t have connectivity available, Play Music will compile local tracks that you may prefer at that point of time as your suggestions.
