ZAPR, media-tech startup gets backed by MuSigma’s Dhiraj Rajaram and Flipkart

Media-tech startup ZAPR has raised funding from Flipkart, Dhiraj Rajaram of MuSigma, Micromax and Saavn.

Company’s existing investors Samir Bangara, Arihant Patni, Sanjay Nath and Dinesh Agarwal also participated in the latest round of funding.

ZAPR has partnered with publishing companies and apps and incorporates its code in the apps. Then with its technology “Frequency fingerprinting” it determines which channel is being watched at a particular time.

There are millions of devices carrying the ZAPR’s TV tracking code as told by its co-founder Sandipan Mondal and Deepak Baid. They declined to comment further.

ZAPR plans to spend this funding in product expansion.

CEO Mondal said, “2016 is going to be a busy year. We are looking at expanding our abilities to tracking radio and even movies in a theatre.”

Baid said that the company is also venturing into international markets and thus, is looking for expanding its team of 25.

Mondal said, “We are working with brands to help them understand how their advertisement did, versus a competitor’s advertisement. We could help a music streaming app, or a content streaming app understand what a user is watching or listening on TV and radio and help them customise their suggestions. We have use cases but we aren’t ready to talk about customers.”
