The vice chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (Belagavi) Dr H Maheshappa has been suspended.
Governor and the Chancellor of universities Vaju Bai Vala issued the order suspending Maheshappa on Tuesday morning. The order has been sent to VTU via FAX.
Based on facts finding committee constituted by chancellor which was headed by justice Keshavanarayana, Governor had issued a notice to Maheshappa on January 29. However he replied to the notice after a month and as the explanation was not satisfactory governor issued suspension order.
Committee was framed based on the allegations against Maheshappa in appointments, construction works conducted at campus, misuse of fixed deposits etc.
Chancellor asked the registrar to act as in charge VC till further orders.
Maheshappa is the second sitting VC to be removed. Soon after taking charge governor removed VC of Karnataka University Dharwad Prof Waliker.
