No it’s not a sports event or a rock concert, it’s a government function! It’s probably the first such function to attract such a huge crowd of entrepreneurs from all over the country. With country booming with startups, no doubt why ‘Startup India’ is gathering such big attention. And why it shouldn’t? after all, PM Modi is to announce a very new deal for startups.
The event is scheduled for next Saturday and the organizers – the department of industrial policy – face an elephant task of narrowing down 1 lakh applicants to 1,500 as only so much can fit in the Vigyan Bhawan.
The event’s focus is on young entrepreneurs rather than on industry giants like Sunil Mittal, Mukesh and Anil Ambani, Cyrus Mistry, Kumar Birla and so on.
An organizer said, “We want to invite those below 40 (years).” A number of entrepreneurs from Silicon Valley are expected to fly to the capital for the event.
The participants can expect to hear from Masayoshi Son (CEO, Softbank), Travis Kalanick (Founder, Uber), Adam Neumann (Founder, WeWork) and so on. The special guests include some 40 Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, angel investors and venture capitalists.
The program also holds the key to the Google’s Launchpad Accelerator Programme which will take only early stage startups. The strategy will focus more on easy finance.
Given the huge crowd, DIPP has especially written to the ministry to make sure that IITians, IIMians and those at incubators can attend the event.
