Mad Street Den has pulled in an undisclosed Series A funding round from Sequoia Capital India.

MadStreetDen offers a cloud based platform for developers to incorporate AI components in their apps as per their requirements.

Artificial intelligence start-up Mad Street Den Systems Pvt. Ltd has raised an undisclosed amount in a Series A funding round from Sequoia Capital and its existing investors Exfinity Venture Partners LLP and GrowX Venture Management Pvt. Ltd.

Its cloud-based platform, called MAD Stack, enables any smartphone with a camera to identify faces, detect facial expressions and emotions, and react to facial and head gestures. MAD Stack's modules include object recognition, gaze tracking, head and facial gestures, emotion-expression detection and 3D facial reconstruction among others.

The company was founded in 2013 by Anand Chandrasekaran, a neuroscientist and a Stanford alumni  and Ashwani Asokan, a former Intel Corp. executive. They both are husband & wife.

Mad Street Den Systems aims to build tools for retailers that will enable them to predict customer needs. Also aims at strengthening its personalisation platform to improve its understanding of style preferences of consumers.

The company’s flagship product, ‘visual search for fashion based e-commerce’ allows a user to take a picture of any dress and find it on an online shopping portal. Also caters to gaming industry to build more immersive games and to ad tech and analytics companies where its tools enable the user engagement measurement and market research.

The company claims to have a pipeline of more than 100 clients in India, West Asia and the US. In India, it counts fashion e-tailers such as Craftsvilla and Voonik as clients.
