India Ranks First Again in World for Maximum Facebook Content Removal Requests

According to a report released by social media giant Facebook, India has once again topped the list of countries making maximum demands for facebook content removal.
In the first half of this year, the censoring demands has increased by three – fold when compared to the last year’s stats. According to the released biannual government requests report, out of 93 countries india tops with with 15,155 demands. Last year between June and December alone, 5,832 requests were made by Indian government.
Facebook said the censor demands were made to prevent any religious unrest and most of these demands have been made by government agencies.
The reports says, “We restricted access in India to content reported primarily by law enforcement agencies and the India Computer Emergency Response Team within the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology because it was anti-religious and hate speech that could cause unrest and disharmony within India.”
Country at the second position is turkey with 4,496 requests and France is at third position with 295 requests.
