The world had to face a grieving time after the famous David Bowie passed away last Friday. David Bowie, American singer and songwriter, who is known for his hits like Space Oddity, Let’s Dance and many others; has been a popular figure in the music industry for the past five decades. He had earned many accolades and had recently released a new album, Blackstar just two days before his death. The star’s demise (after a gallant fight against Cancer) was honored by his fans as follows:
Bowie’s followers paid tribute to the performer by making his albums and projects hover high on the rank lists of Spotify and iTunes. His prominent hits like Heroes, Under Pressure (produced in collaboration with Queen), Space Oddity and Let’s Dance leaped over a massive 2700% (is there even a value like that?!) on sales, after the death of the star was let out globally.
iTunes had published statistics stating that Bowie’s new album, Blackstar had spranged to the top of the store charts while the album with the best of his collections, Best of Bowie was on No.2. Two of his albums, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and Spiders from Mars were within the top five positions of the list. As a whole, five of his albums had occupied the first eleven ranks of iTunes chartlist.
In addition to this, the movie Labyrinth, in which Bowie had played the character of the Goblin King, was placed at no.24 on the Top Movies list.
Bowie, who was looked up to as one of the most impulsive and influential of artists, was esteemed and awed not only for his albums, but also for the different facades that he imposed with flair, since his extraordinary rise to stardom. Tony Visconti, the producer of Blackstar says,” His death was no different from his life – a work of Art. He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift.”
With utmost respect and admiration, May his Soul Rest in Peace!
