Healthy food items to ruff up stress

Stress is everywhere! Be it the hustle bustle of everyday life or our personal problems. We fight stress while driving through busy traffic, the never-ending office work, financial stress and what not? All this totals up as a weak and lethargic body which ultimately leads to more stress.

It is not always possible to eat healthy when of course you have to attend parties, satisfy your craving for food which you love the most or when you are in no mood to cook. But there are some foods which can help reduce stress. We just have to tweak our diet plan a little and include more of these foods.

  1. Yogurt

As yogurt is light and easily digestible, it is very good for summers. Yogurt contains calcium, protein and probiotics which reduce activity in those areas of the brain which handle emotion.Yogurt provides our brain with a sense of calmness and helps to relieve stress and anxiety. Moreover, yogurt can be eaten at any time of the day; you don’t have to wait for your meal time. Just enjoy it whenever you want.

Almonds are an excellent source of Vitamin B2 and E. These vitamins help in boosting the immune system at the time of stress. A quarter full of almonds in enough each day to do the trick. Almonds are also a good source of Selenium mineral whose deficiency can increase feeling of lethargy, depression and anxiety. Almonds can also be consumed in many forms like almond butter, cookies, chocolates etc.

Dark chocolate is not just a treat to our taste buds but also enhances our mood in the best way possible. Dark chocolate is best known to lower stress hormones and improve other imbalances related to stress. According to ‘Psychology Today’, pregnant women who consumed more chocolate during their pregnancy gave birth to stress-relieved babies. Besides this, dark chocolate contains a lot of antioxidants that have enormous health benefits as well.

Spinach is totally a stress buster. Spinach contains plenty of magnesium and Vitamin C which help in the prevention and treatment of anxiety and stress. Magnesium improves your cortisol levels and helps you feel good and fresh. Deficiency of magnesium results in frequent headaches and weakness, triggering stress. One cup of spinach everyday can provide you with the right amount of magnesium and prove to be a brilliant stress buster.

Oats are a major threat to stress and anxiety. They contain fiber, vitamin B and magnesium which are crucial for bringing down stress. Oats are also the best source that provides serotonin which is a very important antidepressant hormone. Less amount of serotonin can increase anxiety hence, consuming serotonin-rich food items is essential. If eating them seems boring add some citrus fruits or dry fruits which also help in reducing stress.

Avocados work efficiently to lower stress. Avocados are rich in vitamin B such as folate and B6 which are known to reduce stress level in your body. They contain lots of monounsaturated fats which gives them a rich creamy taste but also regulate the blood sugar spike which lead to anxiety. Avocados also help reduce high blood pressure as they are an excellent source of potassium.
