Companies have been doing their bit to save the environment and Amazon has joined the league by deciding to deliver orders via cycles. Clean n cheap!

Amazon will be delivering the orders within 3-5km of radius through cycles. It will provide delivery boys with geared bikes that will be able to carry a load of 7.5 kgs at a time.

Amazon has already launched this programme in Mumbai since last month. It is now expanding to Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. The company also plans on expanding to more cities in the coming future.

Samuel Thomas, transportation director said, “Being conscious of the environment we live in, reducing carbon footprint is the need of the hour. We have taken this eco-friendly step by introducing bicycle deliveries, which also helps delivery associates with easier access in congested metro cities.”

However, compensation aware people think that this might be a loss for them as a bicycle messenger earns upto INR 8,500 pm and a motorcycle messenger earns INR 14,000 pm. There is a big gap.

Earlier, Flipkart had also partnered with Dabbawalas of Mumbai for product delivery.
